Address an Illegal Consumption Notice
If your water service has been interrupted and you received a notice of violation for unauthorized usage or if the account is flagged, you must establish a new water service account with the City of Atlanta. Please follow the steps below:
Special Note: Our office hours for processing new water service accounts are 7:30 am to 3:30 pm at our 651 14th Street location. No online service is available once the account has been flagged, we only accept in-person processing.
The DWM Investigations Unit only accepts certified funds in the form of money orders or cashier checks to start new service. No cash, debit or credit cards payments are accepted at the 651 14th Street Location. If your property is a commercial account company checks are accepted.
To establish a new water service account, visit our office in-person at 651 14th Street, Atlanta, GA 30318 and present the required documentation.
- A completed New Service Application including your contact information.
- Copy of the Closing Statement, Closing Disclosure (HUD), Settlement Statement (HUD-1) or Warranty Deed including the physical address of the property within the body of the document. Tax bill or records will not be accepted.
- A legible and valid copy of government issued identification in the applicant(s) name(s) such as a valid Driver’s License or U.S Passport.
- Property Manager or LLC must present a managerial agreement or statement of authorization to establish service on their behalf.
Provide a letter of residency from the servicing power company. Tenants can contact one of the following Atlanta servicing companies to request a letter of residency.
- Georgia Power – 1-888-660-5890
- Greystone (College Park/ South Fulton County) – 770-942-6576.
- And / Or a Tenant Verification Form (completed by property owner) with a copy of the property owners ID or business card attached
- A copy of the customer’s original lease with both owners and tenants signature. A renewed lease is not acceptable.
All new customers will be billed from the time of occupancy.
Customers should be prepared to pay any back-bill balance in full to avoid service termination. In some instances, customers may be eligible for a payment plan upon paying the required down payment.
No new accounts shall be established for customers with delinquent charges on any account in the name of such customers or for customers on any partial payment plan agreement until such charges are paid in full. Atlanta City Code of Ordinances, Section 154-114.1
To resolve an illegal consumption notice, you MUST visit the 651 14th Street DWM location with all REQUIRED documentation. There are no exceptions.
New customers will be charged an 80.00 deposit and a 15.00 application fee. If meter is 1” or larger the rates may vary. Once all required documents are verified an estimated bill amount will be provided at the time of visit and the amount required to restore service will be provided. Total bill amounts cannot be provided by phone.
After payments have been made at the 651 14th Street location and/or payment arrangements have been established, water service will be reconnected within three (3) business days. If you have additional questions, please call 404-546-0600 or email us at DWM-Investigations@atlantaga.gov.
