NEWS RELEASE
UPDATE AS OF 06-02-2024 (11:30 A.M.)
DWM CREWS CONTINUE REPAIR WORK AT WEST PEACHTREE & 11TH STREET
ATLANTA – On Friday, May 31, 2024, crews began working around the clock to address water main breaks in Atlanta. The disruptions occurred at Joseph E. Boone Blvd & J.P. Brawley Dr. and the intersection of West Peachtree St. and 11th St.
After the repairs at Joseph E. Boone Blvd and J.P. Brawley Dr. were completed, water service was fully restored to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the Fulton County Jail, Atlanta City Detention Center, many of Atlanta’s critical facilities, and residents, including several senior high-rise buildings. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena now have water service, and scheduled events will occur as planned.
The repair crews continue to address the broken water main at the intersection of West Peachtree St. and 11th St. They have made significant progress in localizing the repairs. There have been no water service disruptions, and we are committed to continuing our efforts to prevent such disruptions for residents in the area. Traffic control measures remain in place, so motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised to avoid the area.
Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with Georgia EPD guidance, the boil water advisory remains in effect for residents and businesses in the impacted areas.
The Department of Watershed Management will follow its line flushing protocols for the system as a precaution and has begun sampling the affected zones in the Joseph E. Boone Blvd & J.P. Brawley Dr. area to confirm no contamination. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division will advise the Department of Watershed Management when the advisory can be lifted.
