What: Emergency road closure due to a sinkhole 

Where: Georgia Avenue SE between Connally Street SE and Ami Street SE 

When: Monday, January 5, 2026, until repair is complete and road is restored

Comments: DWM crews have completed repairs to the 24-inch sewer pipe on Georgia Avenue SE between Connally Street Avenue SE and Ami Street SE. However, Georgia Avenue will remain closed while crews safely backfill and restore the site.

Traffic control measures and signs are in place to guide motorists around the work zone. Residents and businesses within the work zone will continue to have access to their homes, mail and package delivery, emergency services, and trash collection. Motorists are urged to use caution, follow detours, and avoid the area if possible. 

New Detours:

Motorists traveling East on Georgia Ave SE: Turn right onto Martin St SE, turn left onto Little St SE, turn left onto Grant Terrace St SE, and turn right onto Georgia Ave SE to continue eastbound.

Motorists traveling West on Georgia Ave SE: Turn right onto Hill Street SE, turn left onto Glenwood Drive SE, Glenwood Avenue becomes Fulton Street, turn left onto Martin Street SE, and turn right onto Georgia Avenue SE to continue westbound.
