ATLANTA –The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM)
experienced an emergency combined sewer overflow (CSO) at the West Area Water
Quality Control Facility following significant rainfall on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

This was a permitted overflow, and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD)
has been notified of the incident.

DWM remains committed to protecting public health and environmental quality. In
addition, DWM will continue to monitor conditions along the river and take appropriate
measures to safeguard Atlanta’s waterways.
